The extra terminal Cys is for KLH conjugation. Small molecules such as drugs, organic compounds, peptides and oligosaccharides with a molecular weight of less than 10 kDa usually couldn't bring to immune response, even when administered in the presence of adjuvant. In order to generate an immune response to these compounds, it is necessary to conjugate them to a carrier protein, which has high immunogenicity.
